Nathan Barns
Director, Certified Financial Planner and Justice of the Peace.
Nathan is a Perth-born and bred financial adviser with nearly 30 years’ experience helping individuals and families achieve both their financial and personal goals.
He began his career in 1997 with a boutique advisory firm in West Perth, building a strong foundation in advice before founding Barns Financial Services in 2010. Since then, Nathan has focused on providing clear, steady guidance to clients over the long term, many of whom he has worked with for more than 25 years.
Nathan is a Certified Financial Planner and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Finance) from Curtin University, along with postgraduate qualifications through the Securities Institute of Australia. His extensive experience allows him to support clients through all stages of life, particularly as they move toward retirement and the later stages of their financial journey.
What Nathan finds most rewarding is seeing clients achieve not just financial security, but the lifestyle and personal goals that matter most to them. He takes a calm, empathetic and practical approach, drawing on his own life experience and building relationships that often extend well beyond a typical adviser–client dynamic. While always professional, Nathan is not afraid to be firm when needed, ensuring clients stay focused on what will genuinely benefit them long term.
Outside of work, Nathan is deeply committed to giving back to the community. He volunteered on a primary school board for 14 years, has served for over 25 years as a Justice of the Peace, and is currently in his seventh year as a board member of the Perth Redbacks basketball club.
When he’s not working, Nathan enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two boys, he enjoys both playing basketball socially and his involvement in the Redbacks board, he enjoys travelling, and is looking forward to spending more time caravanning.
Amber Vernon
Partner & Certified Financial Planner
Amber is a Partner and Certified Financial Planner at Barns Financial Services (BFS). Amber has spent most of her life in Western Australia, proudly building her career helping everyday Australians feel confident and in control of their financial future. Amber is a mum to both her daughter and her fur baby, both of which her and her husband adore.
In her 8 years at Barns Financial Services, Amber has completed an undergraduate degree in Business with a major in Finance and Banking at Murdoch University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Financial Planning at Kaplan Professional and then becoming a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) through the Financial Advice Association of Australia as well as an Aged Care Specialist. This combination of advanced education and real-world experience allows Amber to provide strategic, practical advice tailored to each client’s stage of life. Amber became a partner of Barns Financial Services as a partner in 2023, bringing her passion for client-focused advice and financial education into the leadership of the firm.
Amber specialises in supporting pre-retirees and retirees navigate life’s big financial transitions from preparing for retirement to managing superannuation, income streams, estate planning, social security and aged care decisions. She is deeply passionate about improving financial literacy and believes that everyone deserves to understand their money, not feel overwhelmed by it.
Amber’s professional goal is simple: to empower people to make confident, informed financial decisions and to feel secure about the path they’re on now and into the future. To assist clients in achieving goals that they may not have even thought possible and to hold their hand through not only the good times, but the tough times as well. It is incredibly important to Amber that the relationships built with clients are built of a foundation of trust and genuine care.
Outside of work, Amber values time with her family above all else and loves making memories with her husband and daughter. She enjoys travelling, a good coffee, a good book and experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes.

Jack Grimshaw
Partner & Certified Financial Planner
Jack is a Partner and Certified Financial Planner at Barns Financial Services who brings both deep technical expertise and a genuine passion for helping people live fulfilling, meaningful lives.
Originally from Albany, Jack moved to Perth to attend university and has called it home ever since. Growing up in a single-parent household, Jack learned early on the importance of money management, responsibility and the value of time with family. With his mum working long hours, he often helped support the household experiences that shaped his strong work ethic and deep understanding of how financial decisions can impact everyday life.
Jack also played competitive basketball throughout his youth, regularly travelling long distances each weekend to compete in Perth after full weeks of school, an experience that taught him discipline, resilience and commitment.
Jack completed a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Western Australia in 2015, followed by a Master’s Degree in Financial Planning through Kaplan in 2017. He has been a Certified Financial Planner since 2018 and continues to uphold the highest professional standards in advice.
Professionally, Jack’s goal is to help as many people as possible create financial structures that support not just wealth, but happiness and life experiences. He strongly believes that money is a tool to create freedom, memories and peace of mind, not just a number on a balance sheet.
He is passionate about helping clients use their hard-earned money to enjoy life now, while still planning wisely for the future. Jack focuses on building tailored strategies that consider all possible outcomes, always prioritising what works best for the client’s lifestyle and personal goals, not simply what looks best financially on paper.

Outside of work, Jack values time with his family and friends above all else. He enjoys game nights, card games and board games, watching sport, and looks forward to becoming his children’s sporting coach as they grow.

Ameet Kalro
Financial Adviser
Ameet is an Adviser at Barns Financial Services who brings extensive industry experience, strong technical knowledge and a genuine passion for helping clients build secure and meaningful financial futures.
Originally born in Mumbai, India, Ameet moved to Tasmania to complete his Master’s Degree at the University of Tasmania before settling in Western Australia, which has been home for the past 20 years. Shortly after completing his studies, Ameet began his career in financial planning as a paraplanner with Commonwealth Bank, where he developed a strong technical foundation that continues to underpin his advice today.
From there, Ameet progressed into advisory roles across major financial institutions and superannuation funds, gaining broad experience working with clients across a wide range of financial situations and life stages.
Ameet holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University, a Master’s Degree in Accounting and International Business from the University of Tasmania, an Advanced Diploma of Financial Planning, and is a FASEA-qualified adviser. He is currently working towards completing his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.
Professionally, Ameet strongly believes that good, timely financial advice has the power to positively impact not only clients, but also their families and future generations. He is passionate about educating and empowering clients so they feel confident, informed and in control of their financial decisions, particularly through the pre- and post-retirement stages of life.
Ameet’s approach is thoughtful, professional and education-focused. He takes the time to explain strategies clearly, tailor solutions to individual goals, and ensure clients truly understand their financial plan and the opportunities ahead.
Outside of work, Ameet values quality time with his wife Aarti and their two children, Aveer and Aayra, as well as staying connected with close friends. He enjoys meditation, listening to podcasts, travelling, camping, and experiencing new cultures and cuisines.
A large part of Ameet’s life outside of work revolves around his children’s sports. He has been coaching his son’s cricket team for the past three years, regularly attends cricket matches at Perth Stadium with his family, and volunteers at his daughter’s basketball games proudly supporting both teams at a community level. When time allows, he also enjoys playing cricket and basketball with family and friends.

Nicole Brown
Office Manager
Nicole is the front face of Barns Financial Services and plays a central role in keeping the business running smoothly while ensuring every client feels welcomed and well cared for.
Originally from Newcastle, New South Wales, Nicole moved to Western Australia after being posted over with the Navy and has now called WA home for nearly 30 years. During this time, she has raised two children here and built strong roots within the community.
Professionally, Nicole is passionate about supporting the advice team and creating a positive, seamless experience for every client. She takes pride in ensuring operations run efficiently behind the scenes while maintaining a warm and organised front-of-office environment.
Nicole’s approach with clients is empathetic and highly personable. She loves building genuine connections, catching up on what’s been happening in clients’ lives since their last visit, and making everyone feel comfortable and valued from the moment they walk through the door.
Outside of work, Nicole values family and friendships above all else. In her spare time, she enjoys playing netball, horse riding, reading, watching movies, baking, and travelling always keen to try something new or unwind with loved ones.

Daniel Burton
Associate Adviser
Daniel is a dedicated Associate Adviser at Barns Financial Services who was born and raised in Perth. After completing high school, Daniel went on to study a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University, majoring in Finance. Following his studies, he joined us here and has been part of the team for the past three years, gaining valuable hands-on experience supporting our existing advisers and their clients across all areas of financial advice.
Daniel has also completed a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning and is currently working towards his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation and Master’s Degree in Financial Planning, demonstrating his commitment to ongoing education and delivering high-quality advice.
Professionally, Daniel is passionate about connecting with clients and helping them achieve their financial goals. He has a strong interest in improving financial literacy, believing it is an essential life skill that can have a powerful impact on people’s confidence and long-term outcomes.
Daniel takes a relationship-focused approach to working with clients, placing importance on building trust, understanding individual goals, and creating long-term connections that support clients throughout every stage of life.
Outside of work, Daniel values experiences, staying active through running and sports, travelling, and spending time with friends and family.

Bri Barrass
Associate Adviser
Bri is an Associate Adviser at Barns Financial Services who has lived in Western Australia her whole life. Bri is incredibly proud of her family, consisting of her fiancé, Brady and son, Harvey as well as their two cats. She brings both attention and dedication into everything she does, professionally and personally.
Bri completed her Bachelor of Commerce at Murdoch University in 2017. While she initially explored different career opportunities, which she had a fantastic time doing, it was during the COVID period that she realised she wanted a more meaningful career where she could help people, continue learning, and build long-term skills. With a growing interest in finance, Bri joined Barns Financial Services in 2021, and has been an important part of the team ever since.
She has since completed her Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning through Kaplan and is currently working towards completing her Master’s Degree and full financial adviser accreditations.
Professionally, Bri is passionate about supporting clients through major life transitions, with a particular interest in the aged care space. Her goal is to continue developing her expertise so she can help families navigate this stage of life with clarity, care and confidence.
Bri’s approach with clients is deeply empathetic and people-focused. She genuinely cares about each client’s circumstances and takes the time to listen, understand concerns, and provide thoughtful, supportive guidance.

Henry Lynch
Paraplanner
Henry is a Paraplanner at Barns Financial Services who brings a strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and a genuine enthusiasm for financial planning to the advice team.
Henry has always had a passion for both sport and learning. Growing up, he played and followed a wide range of sports including cricket, AFL, water polo, basketball and swimming. These are all experiences that helped shape his discipline, teamwork and commitment. Alongside sport, Henry was actively involved in music throughout high school, playing the trumpet as part of the school music program.
Henry completed a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Economics and Finance, at the University of Western Australia. After enjoying the financial planning units within his commerce degree, he went on to complete a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning through Kaplan Professional. He is currently working towards completing a Master’s Degree in Financial Planning, also through Kaplan Professional.
Professionally, Henry’s goal is to become a financial adviser so he can directly help clients achieve their dreams and long-term goals. He is passionate about building strong technical knowledge and supporting advisers by delivering thorough, well-structured advice strategies.
Outside of work, Henry values spending time with friends and family and enjoys learning new things. In his spare time, he likes watching movies, reading, op shopping, and playing golf.

Laney Francis
Client Services Officer
Laney leads our Client Services team, she brings care, enthusiasm and a strong client-first mindset to every interaction.
Originally from the South Coast of New South Wales, Laney made the move to Perth just over two years ago and has been working with us ever since. Through her experience as a Client Service Officer, she discovered a genuine passion for financial planning and helping clients navigate important life decisions which inspired her to begin her journey towards becoming a financial adviser.
Laney holds a Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking from TAFE NSW and is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Financial Planning. She is committed to building her knowledge and skills to continue supporting clients at a higher level in the future.
Professionally, Laney is passionate about helping clients, particularly those navigating Centrelink and social security or government benefits, achieve the best possible outcomes. Her goal is to complete her degree and continue growing within the financial planning profession while providing exceptional service and support.

Cherry Gabrillo
Client Services Officer
Cherry is a Client Services Officer at Barns Financial Services and a valued member of the support team. She plays an important role in supporting the advice team behind the scenes and ensuring clients receive a seamless and efficient experience.
Cherry is based in the Philippines and brings a strong academic background to her role, having completed a Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting at the University of San Jose–Recoletos in Cebu City. Her education has provided her with a solid foundation in finance principles, organisation and attention to detail.
Professionally, Cherry is eager to continue building her knowledge of the Australian financial planning landscape and is passionate about developing her skills within the industry. She takes pride in supporting advisers and advocating for clients through her back-end work, ensuring processes and outcomes are accurate, timely and client-focused.
While Cherry’s role is primarily behind the scenes, her approach is attentive, professional and solution-focused. She is committed to delivering high-quality support that helps the advice team operate smoothly and ultimately enhances the client experience.
